Educating the Public

Efforts of the doctors to bring about compulsory medical examination of school children and others are not on the wane, and it is quite evident from newspaper reports that where they have succeeded in having this work done, little if any regard has been paid to the wishes and protests of parents, or even to the simple dictates of modesty. We quote from an editorial in the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Republican as follows:—

In New York city the health department is demanding that "each pupil at the time of his or her admission to a public school, or free school supported in whole or in part by funds obtained from direct taxation," shall be examined "in the absence of all clothing" by a "duly licensed physician authorized to practise medicine in the state of New York."
