A point made by our clerical critic is that all cheer and healing in Christian Science could be found outside of it. Why is it not found? The burden of proof is on the critic. The Christian Science churches are filled to overflowing every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening with people who are seeking and finding the cheer and healing they have not found elsewhere.

Most of the criticisms made by the reverend gentleman are unsupported statements, and not founded on facts. When he refers to Christian Scientists as a sect, with emphasis on the healing, he fails to remember that Jesus commanded us to preach the gospel and heal the sick. To make a man better morally is to make him more healthy physically, and this spiritual healing is the true healing of sickness. No doubt the critic believes and teaches that the Christ can transform a man "dead in trespasses and sins," and yet he cannot see how this same Christ in consciousness could heal a toothache! It is a rather hopeless position to take.

Scarcely a criticism appears on the subject of Christian Science that does not include an allegation that Christian Science teaches that all creation is illusion, and that man has no body. Christian Science declares in the words of the Master, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." It recognizes the creation of God as the spiritual man and the spiritual universe, and teaches one to know man as the Bible says God made him, in His own image and likeness.
