Among the Churches

Current Notes

Liverpool, England. —Is it not surprising that Wednesday [Sept. 15], being a half-holiday, with service performed in every Church of England Church, the churches are empty with the exception of a couple of dozen or so? ... There is one church in Liverpool, the Christian Science Church, which has been full to the door of earnest Christians these long summer evenings,—not old and decrepit people, but all young and healthy people.—W. M. in The Liverpool Echo.

Manchester, N. H.—While the Christian Science Church on Harrison Street cannot perhaps be properly classed as among the strictly new structures of the year, the elaborate and extended nature of the additions and changes that have been made in the original building is such that it is virtually a new edifice after all, and a most attractive and sightly one. The original building, constructed before the Christian Science faith had attained to its present vast proportions here or elsewhere, is made to serve simply as the front of the present building. In the rear of it, and as the main part of the auditorium of the church, has been built an addition 42 by 28 feet in size. This auditorium gives a seating capacity of approximately eight hundred. The construction cost of the added portion of the church, exclusive of any of the interior furnishings incidental to the equipment, was in the neighborhood of nine thousand dollars.—Manchester Leader.

Lowell, Mass.—Although not generally known, the House of Prayer on Walker Street has entered upon a period of renewed usefulness, the place having been bought a few months ago by a portion of the Christian Scientists in Lowell, who have formed themselves into a new society and are carrying on the work with zeal.—Lowell Telegram.
