When Jesus began to preach the gospel, he healed all...

The Dayton (Ohio) Journal

When Jesus began to preach the gospel, he healed all manner of disease. When he sent the twelve out, he commanded them to heal the sick; and when he sent the seventy out, he also commanded them to heal the sick. When Peter found the crippled man "at the Beautiful gate of the temple," he commanded him "in the name of Jesus Christ" to "rise up and walk." When Philip went down to the city of Samaria, he healed the sick. The apostle James says (speaking to the church), "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Pray one for another, that ye may be healed."

Now, will some one tell me if the command to the church to heal the sick has been revoked? If so, when and by whom? I am not a Christian Scientist, but Christian Science is growing rapidly. I learn that there are sixteen churches in Chicago, all prospering. Why? Simply because they heal the sick. [This correspondent has been misinformed as to the number of Christian Science churches in Chicago. At present there are twelve churches and a society.—Editor Sentinel.]
