When I first took treatment from a Christian Scientist...

When I first took treatment from a Christian Scientist some five years ago, I was a physical and mental wreck. I had been forced to abandon my business, after being treated for more than two years by nerve specialists in several large cities without appreciable improvement. I was suffering from nervous breakdown, a supposedly tubercular condition of the stomach and bowels, partial paralysis of the left limb, and a pain at the base of my head which did not cease for more than two years. I gave up every employment and impatiently awaited death. I became so weak I could scarcely walk, and my spinal column was so affected that I could not look to the right or the left without turning completely around. In addition, I was in constant dread of self-destruction, for I did not think it possible to endure my terrible sufferings much longer. I was haunted by the thought that I would live just long enough to forfeit insurance policies which I had carried for over twenty years, and which seemed the only possible escape from poverty for my wife and children. In short, it would be impossible to imagine a condition more deplorable than mine. I was not permitted to drink even water until it had been medicated.

In this condition, in response to my wife's desire, I called in a Christian Science practitioner, and after three treatments, found my appetite and digestion restored. Ten days later I resumed my position as a traveling salesman, and have been gaining ever since. I at once experienced so great a change that there was no longer any doubt as to my healing. I did not lose all my many diseases immediately, but gradually one after another left me until all have gone, and my health is completely regained. I am today, after thirty-four years on the road, better qualified than ever before to discharge my every duty. My spiritual, mental, physical, and financial conditions have steadily improved, and nothing could tempt me to forsake the truth which has done so much for me and which for years has met every need in my family of six.

I am deeply grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has pointed the way, and, above all, thankful to Almighty God, who healeth all our diseases and giveth us that peace "which passeth all understanding."
