Seeking at the Source

Since the publication of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," many letters have been received at headquarters expressing great gratitude for this book, and for the opportunity it has given to Christian Scientists to become more familiar with Mrs. Eddy's teachings on various subjects more or less intimately connected with the healing and regenerating work of Christian Science. In this book there is gathered practically all of our Leader's published writings since 1896; and when we stop to consider the great numerical growth which has taken place in the Christian Science movement since that date, we can readily understand that its publication has meant the opening up of a mine of information to the many who have become Christian Scientists within the past few years, and to whom the publications in which these articles first appeared were inaccessible.

One can but be impressed, indeed, as he turns the pages of this new treasure, this fresh store of garnered wisdom, with the multitude and variety of problems which the development of this great movement presented to its Leader for solution, and how lovingly and wisely, under divine guidance, every obstacle was removed and the crooked made straight. Then it matters not what the future may have in store, for it has been proven, again and again, that whatever problem may present itself, somewhere in Mrs. Eddy's writings, in either the letter or the spirit, will be found the key to its solution, for in her own experience they had each and all presented themselves, in one phase or another.

In the Foreword of the new volume is the statement that no one "knows anything about Christian Science except as he has learned it from her [Mrs. Eddy] and from her writings." Just to the extent that Christian Scientists realize this statement to be true, are they saved from the perils of certain literature purporting to be Christian Science, which seems to be on the increase. When one is seeking information on a subject which vitally concerns his well-being, it is the part of wisdom to seek that information at its source, rather than to get it second-hand and colored with the personal bias of the purveyor. If, then, we are desirous of gaining that fuller understanding of Christian Science which will bring to us a realization that the peace of God, the richness of life eternal, is possible here and now, there is but one place in which it may be found, and that is in the writings of its Discoverer and Founder and none other.
