No Condemnation
It would be difficult if not impossible to find more helpful and encouraging words than those contained in the eighth chapter of St. Paul's epistle to the Romans, and it has been the glorious privilege of nearly all who have prayerfully taken up the study of Christian Science, to experience at least in part the truth of its promises.
The writer remembers being carried on board one of the Atlantic liners at New York about twenty-two years ago, en route for England, there to undergo a dangerous operation for an internal growth, though with little probability of ever being a strong, active man again. Having no practical knowledge of God, and being indeed without hope in the world, my only desire was that I might die. The operation having been performed, I was pronounced convalescent after several weary months spent in bed, at the same time being informed by the surgeon that, although the operation had been successful, he could not promise the growth would not return.
The seed of fear thus unconsciously sown began to spring up some years later, and ended in a complete breakdown of the nervous system. After being away from business six months, with little benefit, I decided to try Christian Science treatment, and as stated in a testimony published some few years ago, I was completely healed in five weeks. The gradual unfolding of the truths contained in the Bible not only healed my sickness, but immediately began to transform my entire being by a renewing of the human mind; and in place of an insatiable desire for excitement, evidenced in racing, playing cards, and so on, came the earnest desire to know more about this God whose healing and saving power had so wonderfully and quickly wrought such a transformation in both my physical and mental condition.
