In a recent issue is a paragraph on "Faith as a Cure," which refers to the report of the medical and clerical committee on faith-healing. Will you allow me to say that Christian Science is in no way connected with faith-healing, and that the committee referred to has so far not included Christian Science in the scope of its inquiry. The report, therefore, does not refer to healing by Christian Science treatment.
In mathematics, or when endeavoring to rectify any mistake, there is obviously no good gained by accepting the mistake as part of reality or truth. No mistake can be corrected unless one knows the truth about it. So in Christian Science the suffering body is not dealt with as something which has to be changed, but through a knowledge of the truth as revealed by Mrs. Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Scientist is able to know the truth about the difficulty which has presented itself, and this knowledge is the healing of the trouble. Some two thousand years ago Christ Jesus and his disciples understood enough of the law of God, or recognized Truth sufficiently clearly, to be able to heal those who came for help. If it was right for the sick to be healed in this manner two thousand years ago, it is obviously right for disease as well as sin to be destroyed in the same way today.
Now, it is obvious that this method of healing taught and demonstrated by Jesus the Christ and his disciples during the first few centuries of the Christian era, is in no way associated with suggestion or faith-healing, which is after all but a form of suggestion. Christian Science, therefore, is unique, and stands alone in the world as the exact reiteration of the teaching of the Founder of Christianity, who gave the forcible message to humanity that those who understood his teaching would be able to do the works he did.
