I am truly thankful for what God has done for me through the agency of Christian Science. It came to me at a time when death and the grave seemed very near. I had called in an attorney and had had my business affairs fixed up just as I wanted to leave them. A daughter who lived within call of my home and had been with me through many days of extreme suffering, when doctors and medicine had failed to give any relief, had notified the other members of my family of my condition and had advised them that if they wished to see me alive they would have to come at once.

These notices soon brought to my home four of my daughters who lived in different places around the country, and to all human belief I had but a short time to be with them. When in that condition, Christian Science came to my rescue. One daughter, who lived in Denver, had become interested in Christian Science, and on her arrival she commenced to apply it for me, saying that it was curing many cases in Denver which the doctors had given up as fatal, and she believed it would help me. My reply was, that Christian Science could do nothing for me and I did not want it, that my own church was good enough for me,—I had been a Methodist all my life and I was content to die one. Here the daughter who lived near me joined in urging Christian Science treatment, saying that I was very sick and that doctors and medicine had not helped me, and that even if Christian Science did not help me, it could do no harm.

There were no practitioners in the town where I was then living, so my daughters asked my consent to write to a Scientist in Denver, requesting her to give me absent treatment. I thought it the height of absurdity to think that a person two hundred and fifty miles away could do me any good, and I lying there at the point of death; but to satisfy them I said they could do as they wished, I did not care. The next mail took a letter addressed to a practitioner in Denver, and Christian Science healed me of all my diseases and fear, and the healing was perfect and permanent. Though that was about twenty years ago, I have had no need for doctors or medicine since, have had no sickness, and seldom an ache or a pain, and now, at the age of ninety years, I am still in good health, free from sickness, suffering, or fear. While a member of a Christian church for nearly fifty years, trying to serve God through fear of punishment, I was in constant dread lest at some time, in some way, I should unconsciously break one of His laws and be kept out of heaven for so doing. Christian Science has, however, healed me of both sickness and fear.
