Christian Science has brought me so many blessings, and...
Christian Science has brought me so many blessings, and brought them so naturally, that I realize their extent only as I look back on former conditions. I first turned to it for physical healing, having suffered for over ten years from a skin disease of the most aggravated type. This was not painful, but being located on the face it was a disfigurement, and caused me great annoyance. I faithfully tried every remedy I heard of, and was treated by many physicians, among them being specialists of both New York and Boston, but I received no help; in fact, the more material remedies I used, the worse the trouble seemed to grow.
Finally I turned to Christian Science, hoping that there I might find the desired help. I read the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and seemed to gain a fair understanding. I was treated by a Christian Science practitioner, and I even had class instruction, but still the healing was delayed. I had done all that I knew how to do, and there seemed nothing left but to do as the apostle Paul says, "Having done all, to stand,"—not to turn back, not to lose faith, but to stand. It required three years of just such standing before the perfect healing came, but with it there also came the understanding which knows that our way is not God's way. I had planned how that healing should come about, never realizing the changes which must be wrought in character and in ways of thinking. When these were effected, the physical healing naturally followed.
I can feel nothing but gratitude now for this apparently slow healing. Patience and experience have given me a firm foundation, the faith that Christian Science never fails us. If we are willing to do our part, to take each step as we see it, and even when appearances are most discouraging if we are willing to stand, the desired help must come. The Bible is filled with just such promises, and they cannot fail. We of this age are especially blessed in having had a Leader who could show us how to make these promises available.
