When I first came to Christian Science, about twelve...
When I first came to Christian Science, about twelve years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about it, and cared very little what it was, if it only brought me relief from rheumatism, from which I had suffered many weary years. My first experience with Christian Science was entirely satisfactory, but through no fault of my own I had to give it up. In about a year I had another attack of the disease, worse than before, and again I turned to Christian Science and found almost immediate relief. This time I was cured of a most serious bowel trouble, which had been given up by two physicians, one of whom is still an eminent practitioner of his profession in Boise, Idaho. For the second time, through the most bitter opposition, I was forced to give up Christian Science and its cheerful environment, and go back to discord, doctors, and distress. I had tried material remedies of all sorts, including magnetic healing and electricity, but all without any permanent benefit.
A few years ago I found myself, like the prodigal son, far away from the Father's house, sick and discouraged, and I resolved to have freedom in choosing my religion and the method I would employ to regain my health. Now I am back again in the great family circle of Christian Scientists, partaking of the good things of our heavenly Father's kingdom, and am healthy and happy. Although I am still in an invalid's chair, I am by no means an invalid in the ordinary sense of the word, and I fain would be "a willing disciple at the heavenly gate, waiting for the Mind of Christ" (Science and Health, Preface, p. ix). I wish to express my gratitude to God, also to Mrs. Eddy, who has made these things possible. — W. G. C. Blessinger, Caldwell, Idaho.
