When Christian Science found me, I was to mortal sense at death's door, but God in His tender mercy meant it otherwise for me. What seemed my end was but a beginning in which all things became new. About sixteen years ago I was for three years troubled with hemorrhages from the lungs, the physician saying I would outgrow them if I took good care of myself; and this seemed to be the case, until in February, 1910, when the hemorrhage began again. Medical treatment stopped it, but serious trouble followed, namely, convulsions, lasting three and four hours at the time. This outward disturbance ceased, but the internal condition remained unchanged and the end seemed at hand. Then man's extremity was shown to be God's opportunity, and Christian Science was recommended.

I had never felt any interest in this teaching, for I knew nothing of it except that its adherents did not use drugs, while I was a firm believer in homeopathy and also felt quite satisfied with the religious faith in which I had been reared. When the Christian Science practitioner came, I asked her if she would take my God from me; if so, I would have nothing to do with Christian Science. To this she answered lovingly, "Take God from you, never; Christian Science will make you love God more;" and such indeed has been the case. Treatment was begun, and thank God, I was healed in that same hour. I was asked to rise, and I did so; then I dressed myself, and have not been in bed since during the day. That night I enjoyed the first peaceful sleep in three weeks.

Jesus said: "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." The Bible has become illumined for me through our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and words cannot express the heartfelt gratitude which I have toward God, also to our revered Leader for the many blessings we have received through the teachings of Christian Science.
