AMONG THE CHURCHES
CURRENT NOTES.
Lincoln, Neb .—The opening service in the new Christian Science church on the corner of Twelfth and L streets will be held this morning [Sept. I] at eleven o'clock, the regular service of the church appointed for that day being used. This will not be a dedication of the church, as the Christian Scientists do not dedicate their churches until fully paid for. Nevertheless it will be an occasion of great rejoicing, not only among the Christian Scientists of Lincoln, but throughout the state. The church building is a two-story brick and stone structure, built fireproof up to the second floor, and cost, including site and furnishings, not far from one hundred thousand dollars. It is about ninety by one hundred and twenty feet on the ground, and fifty-four feet from the grade line to the peak of the roof. The Greek style of architecture predominates. The dimensions of the main auditorium are eighty-one by eighty-six feet, with incline floor on the sides, sloping to the center. The capacity of this room is about twelve hundred. There are no galleries.—Sunday State Journal.
Sheridan, Wyo.—Twenty years old and one of the first churches built in Sheridan, the building which until recently housed the congregation of St. Peter's Episcopal church, has just been purchased by the Christian Scientists and moved to a lot on Gould street opposite the Foster house, where after being repaired and renovated it will serve as the home of the Christian Science society.
When altered and improved, in accordance with the plans of the new owners, the building will be occupied for general church purposes and as a semipublic reading-room. The reading-room, which is to occupy the wing formerly occupied as a vestry room, will be open to the public every afternoon. It was hoped to hold the first services in the building early in September.—Sheridan Post.
