When one's healing in Christian Science is slow, he need...

When one's healing in Christian Science is slow, he need not be discouraged. It is not that Truth cannot heal, it is perhaps because he is consciously or unconsciously denying the truth which sets free. The majority of those who come to Science do so with a selfish motive—it is to get something—and if the healing does not manifest itself according to their planning, a doubt creeps in, and even though they may not voice this doubt, it hinders the work. When I came to Christian Science it was for the physical healing, and with a great deal of self-righteousness I would say to the various practitioners whom I visited that I had my own religion (having been a church-member for over thirty years), and that I just wanted to be healed. It is needless to say that I did not get the physical healing, but I did get a desire to know whether this was the truth, and after several months of close application to the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I learned that Christian Science is a healing religion. Then came the outward manifestation,—I was healed of a skin disease which had caused me great suffering for several years.

With a deep sense of gratitude to God, and appreciation of Mrs. Eddy, I wish to say that I rejoice that my healing was slow, because it gave me an opportunity to begin the working out of my salvation.
