THE LECTURES
A lecture on Christian Science was delivered by Willis F. Gross May 28, in Malden Auditorium. Mr. Gross was introduced by the Hon. Harvey L. Boutwell of Malden, who spoke in part as follows:—
A great authority has said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." In temporal matters—in the business world—we judge all matters and things by the results produced. We measure men, to a very large extent at least, by what they produce. This same test may be properly applied to Christian Science. "By their fruits ye shall know" Christian Scientists. I have many friends who are believers in the doctrines and teachings of Christian Science. My observation leads me to believe that the teachings of Christian Science have produced certain common characteristics. I mention a few:
Sincerity of purpose. A real Christian Scientist is a sincere person. He has a sincere desire to make the world better and to be better himself. Christian Scientists possess an abiding faith which seems to be sufficient to enable them to maintain a wonderful poise during all the vicissitudes of life. These people appear to have charity for all—not that charity which consists of mere almsgiving, but a broader charity, a charity for all the frailties of human life. They seem to be willing to forgive those who trespass against them. Christian Scientists are an honest people. A genuine Christian Scientist can be trusted with your pocketbook. They believe in a square deal and a fair deal under any and all circumstances. They are an industrious people. They are an intelligent people. They are a law-abiding people. They seek to know the law, and knowing it, live within the strict rules thereof. They are a peace-loving people and filled with contentment of spirit. They desire to be at peace with all the world. These common characteristics tend to make men and women better husbands and wives, better fathers and mothers, better neighbors and citizens.—Malden Mirror.
