In sincere gratitude for what Christian Science has been...

In sincere gratitude for what Christian Science has been to me thus far, I would like to relate an experience which I had over a year ago, and which decided me to study Christian Science. I had been suffering from a severe attack of an organic trouble which had become chronic. Some years ago I had experienced a severe attack of peritonitis, which lasted three months, so I knew that to ask aid of a physician would be of no avail, and I did not propose to spend another three months that way. Without any one else's knowledge, I began to read Science and Health. I did not know how I could possibly be cured by so doing, but thought I would at least see what benefit might be derived through reading the book, so commenced at the beginning.

At length I came to where Mrs. Eddy says, "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well" (p. 14); and as I read these words they seemed most beautiful to me, though at first I could not fully comprehend them. I read and reread the passage, trying to realize its full meaning, and finally closed the book and meditated upon what I had been reading. In a few moments the full realization of its truth came to me like a light to one in darkness, and I found myself suddenly well, and decided at once that the right place for me was in the Christian Science church.
