AMONG THE CHURCHES

The usual simple service marked the dedication on Sunday [Aug. 27] of First Church of Christ, Scientist. The church history is in part as follows:—

First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Sharon, Pa., was organized Oct. 25, 1899. A charter was applied for and granted on May 21, 1900, the number of members at that time being eighteen. On Sept. 5, 1900, a building fund was started; and on April 1, 1902, the lot on which this church now stands was purchased for three thousand dollars.

Ground was broken for the church edifice in May, 1905, some three years later; and on June 13, 1905, the cornerstone was laid. The building was completed and formally opened on Jan. 21, 1906. The church building cost seven thousand dollars; and this,—together with the cost of the lot, making in all ten thousand dollars,—was paid by voluntary subscriptions, no one outside the faith being asked for a contribution; and no one but the treasurer knowing what any one person contributed. No Christian Science church is dedicated until paid for; and the clearing of all indebtedness on July 13, last, made the dedication of today possible.
