THE IMPRINT OF THE PRESENT
The present is undoubtedly a period of strong, persistent, and enlightened effort for the social and moral elevation and material welfare of mankind. We point with honest pride to modern mechanical inventions and achievements, and the mighty constructive energy evidenced in the conquest over earth, air, and sea, as a stamp which this epoch has imposed upon the ages. These grand achievements are but the waymarks of man's material progress, yet they point the finger, and declare with the voice of clear-sighted prophecy and reasoning, for higher, grander, and more enduring achievements, even man's grasp of the great imperishable truth that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health, p. 468). Up to the understanding of this statement in its fuller delineation by our Leader, all the great centers of civilization are being directed. To every country and in every clime the glorious message of freedom has come, and the means of deliverance from sin, disease, and death is being placed within the reach of all.
"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," with its living, pulsating truths, is opening up and unfolding anew the Bible, disclosing a mine of precious jewels. It is arresting the attention and attracting the study of men as never before, and the deeper they delve the more gems they find, gems of precious thought, "of purest ray serene," that have been hidden away for centuries, but are now found, through the revelation of Christian Science, to be the living attributes of Love, "who healeth all thy diseases," and that are applicable to our every need, even as Mrs. Eddy sets forth in her inspired and inspiring words, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).
Again has dawned the light in human understanding, and again mankind is called upon to retrace the way, to come out of its wanderings through the maze of mortal mind theories, deductions, and dogmas, and enter the domain of science, relinquishing all doubt and mere belief for the possession of certainty. In the accomplishment of this task our Leader, through her teaching and her published works, has brought us back to primitive Christianity, even to the manger where lay the infant idea of Truth. And here we may pause, lay aside every earthly care, and rejoice, express our gratitude and give our treasures of love to her who has led us forth to the demonstrable knowledge that God is "a very present help," as the psalmist declares Him to be: that the same peace, the same presence and power that brooded over the manger, protects today as of yore every aspiring heart.
