AMONG THE CHURCHES

First and Second Churches of Christ, Scientist, have united. Beginning Christmas day the two congregations will meet as First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Philharmony Hall. Second Church gives up its charter, and its although members are to be enrolled on First Church records at once, although their legal change will not take place until the second Sunday in January. By the terms of the agreement between the two churches, officers of both organizations are to resign, and on Jan 9 an election is to be held at which all officers are to be elected for the united church. Members of First and Second churches are to vote at this election. New Readers also will be chosen at the election Jan. 9. It has been agreed that the Readers of both churches shall resign.

First church has been in existence many years. Second church, an outgrowth of First church, was organized two years ago. Both churches have maintained reading-rooms in which Christian Science literature is sold. For a time, at least, both reading-rooms will be maintained, but it is the plan to secure larger quarters in a more centrally located building and unite the two reading-rooms in one. It is the expectation of the united church to sell the First Church building and at the proper time construct a handsome edifice in some other location.

For the past year there has been an agitation to unite the two churches. The resolution favoring one church was adopted by Second Church shortly after the passing of Mrs. Eddy. The resolution was presented after consultations between members of both churches.—Wichita Eagle.
