THE LECTURES

On Sunday afternoon, May 22, Frank H. Leonard lectured on Christian Science, at the Auditorium, before a large and appreciative audience. He was introduced by the Governor of Minnesota, the Hon. A. O. Eberhart, who spoke as follows:—

It must indeed be very gratifying to the committee who have had this lecture under consideration and who have made the arrangements, to see so large an audience this afternoon; and while it is my first experience in listening to a lecture on this subject, I can say to you truly that I have not come here merely for the purpose of introducing the lecturer, but because I am anxious to hear what he has to say. I have taken an oath of office to give to the people of this state the best service, the best knowledge that there is in me, and anything that better qualifies me for rendering such service to the people of this state is something in which I am specially interested; therefore I wish to go where I may get such knowledge and such information.

When we look back upon the progress of humanity during the past ten or fifteen centuries, we find that the progress made during the last two or three decades has, in comparison, been wonderful. The time was when, as to religion, people were very narrow and restricted, but we find now that new occasions teach new duties. Time makes ancient good uncouth; they must press upward still, and onward, who would keep abreast with Truth. As a seeker after knowledge and Truth. I have come here to listen to this lecture, and I am sure that all who have come here will go away with the feeling that they have been well compensated for the time spent in listening to this present speaker, because he comes to us with a message which stands for the betterment and the uplifiting of mankind.
