AMONG THE CHURCHES

A progressive step in the history of Christian Science in Brooklyn was taken yesterday morning [July 9] in laying the corner-stone of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at the southwest corner of New York avenue and Dean street. Only the officers of the church, its board of trustees, and building committee attended the ceremonies, which were very simple and were conducted by the First and Second Readers of the church.

The congregation, previous to last October, worshiped in the cosy little edifice at 404 Lafayette avenue, which had the distinction of having been the first church erected in New York state exclusively for Christian Science meetings. The Sunday School room on Dean street having been completed last October, has made it possible for a larger congregation to assemble, and therefore has been used for all the services since that time. There is still need for larger accommodations, and the main auditorium, when completed, will give a seating capacity of about twelve hundred.
