THE LECTURES

Introducing William D. McCrackan, M.A., of Boston, who spoke on Christian Science Thursday night [Feb. 10], First Reader Harry K. Filler said in part,—

You have all experienced the satisfaction gained from learning the truth about the alphabet and the multiplication table. You learned the letters and numbers first, then you learned that by properly placing them you were able to read, write, count, and work numerous examples in arithmetic. Proportionately as you have held to the fundamentals upon which the alphabet and numbers are based, you have been enabled to arrive at a knowledge of things as you know them today. Only the truth about things ever brings real satisfaction; and I state unhesitatingly that all mankind everywhere are looking for satisfaction, are seeking for the truth of things. All truth must necessarily be based on Principle, and to get a knowledge of this Principle is to gain a working understanding of the truth, for anything to be true must be provable. Christian Science does teach the truth about God and His creation, and does in countless ways prove God to be a very present help in time of trouble. You may all, if you will, prove this to be true, as you have been able to prove the alphabet or numbers to be true. The thing required in this, as in mathematics, is a willingness to be taught. Desire the truth of it, and you will get it.
