In January, 1904, when the healing truth came into our home, our young daughter was nearly helpless from a nervous disease. We had just enough faith in Christian Science to think that it might help in such a case as this, and I was led to one of Mrs. Eddy's students, who gave me a new understanding of life, and the child was wonderfully healed in a few weeks' treatment. By that time, my faith had increased, and I was taking treatment myself and studying, filled with a new hope. For seven years I had suffered from various diseases, had been forced to leave our home in Michigan, and later in Illinois, and had come to Colorado Springs, in hope of benefit from the climate. I had refused Christian Science in both of the above places, when offered by loving friends, and was led by a path I knew not, through my child's suffering. One after another my troubles vanished, among them bronchial trouble, a serious throat disease, deafness and loss of voice; and I was free!

The regaining of my voice has always seemed a wonderful demonstration to me, as I had very little faith in the efficacy of prayer. One Sunday evening, while preparing lunch, the impression came to me so strongly to obey the Master's admonition, "Enter into thy closet, and ... pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly," that I left my work and very earnestly claimed perfect hearing and voice. In about an hour I startled the family by speaking a few words, and at the following Wednesday evening meeting I gained perfect freedom. Since then we have had numberless proofs of the power of Truth to meet our every need, among them being the healing of a running sore which had made life almost unbearable for a year, and a serious injury to the head of a little daughter, with its distressing accompaniments, was overcome by two absent treatments. I had been a life-long believer in spiritualism, and had a great struggle to accept the Bible. I found it true that "in the breaking up of material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence;" but I also found that "Love will finally mark the hour of harmony, and spiritualization will follow, for Love is Spirit" (Science and Health, p.96).

My intense prejudice against the Founder of Christian Science (resulting from reading in mental science) soon gave way to unlimited respect and love, and I can never be thankful enough to her for bringing to this age the beautiful message of Love, "with healing in his wings."
