In the spring of 1901 I became afflicted with a disease which was diagnosed as an ovarian trouble. I began treatment with our family physician in January of the following year, but although the doctor did all he could for me, I received only temporary relief. For a year and a half I suffered constant pain, and after a time complications set in, among which were stomach, bowel, and bladder trouble. I was under medical treatment five years, and at last the doctor told me that an operation was the only thing which would do me any good; but to this I would not consent.
My attention was first called to Christian Science in the fall of 1906, but I was not ready for it at that time. In January of 1907 I decided to give up medicine and try Christian Science, through the influence of my parents, who were becoming interested in it. I read Science and Health, but was taking medicine at the same time and was very antagonistic to what I thought Christian Science to be, so of course I received little benefit. Later, I decided to have help from a practitioner, and I was healed in two weeks; nor has there been any return of the trouble. I have not been antagonistic since taking the first treatment, and I have found Christian Science an ever available help in overcoming impatience, worry, and many other sins.
While I am very thankful for the physical healing, the spiritual uplifting is to me more wonderful, as I had always longed for something better than the orthodox teachings could give. I have had the privilege of class instruction, for which I am very grateful. I am deeply thankful to God for the many blessings I have received, also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose faithful example is a constant help to me. I desire so to live that my life will prove my gratitude.
