When Pilate queried, "What is truth?" he voiced the yearning of mankind for the absolute understanding that alone can give surcease from sorrow, sin, and fear. Today, one solitary woman's inspiration has awakened the echoes of the long-dead centuries, and caused the mountains of material belief to shake and tremble at the answer to the Roman governor's despairing question.

Christian Science is the name which has been chosen by its Discoverer, Mrs. Eddy, to designate the system of practical religion which offers, to all who will investigate it humbly and faithfully, the soul-satisfying understanding of the Master's teaching and works that enables the student who is willing to take up his cross and follow him; also to obey his imperative commands to preach the gospel and heal the sick. To the repentant sinner Christian Science says, "Let the dead bury their dead, and come thou and follow me;" to the mourner and the heavy laden, "Ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope;" to the sick and suffering, doomed by material beliefs, "Jesus of Nazareth passeth by, for said he not, 'Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world'?"
