Four years ago, after several months of intense suffering...

Four years ago, after several months of intense suffering, I consulted the family physician, also a surgeon of wide-spread reputation, who told me that my condition was most serious, and that in his opinion nothing but an operation would give any relief. Seeing my extremely nervous state, he prescribed for me, and said we would try medication for a month; at the same he told my sister that he had no hope of a cure from anything but surgery. I took none of the medicine, but the next day consulted a Christian Science practitioner, and found help in the very first treatment. I showed marked improvement each day, and at the end of thirteen weeks I called on the surgeon to show him the change that had taken place. He was perfectly delighted with my condition, assuring me that no operation would be necessary, and it is needless to say that there never has been.

While this is the greatest demonstration of the truth, I have also been healed of several chronic ailments which it seemed impossible to cure in medicine, and my son and my brother have both been healed of badly injured ankles in a few hours' time. My son met with his accident at college, and after a week's surgical treatment there, he came home on crutches. He was quite athletic, and very clever at tennis. The surgeon told him he would probably never play again and must wear an anklet for years. After one treatment in Christian Science, he walked without any aid, and in three days was entirely well. On his return to college, two weeks later, he took his place on the university team.

Each day I realize how plain Mrs. Eddy has made this great truth, and I am most grateful that I have been able to grasp it, even in part.
