I became interested in Christian Science about ten years...

I became interested in Christian Science about ten years ago, through a copy of The Christian Science Journal which was loaned me by a friend, who also induced me to accompany her to one of the meetings, which at that time were held at a private house by a small band of workers in Dresden. My interest was aroused, and I continued to attend the testimonial meetings, as well as the Sunday services, as I was greatly uplifted and encouraged by what I heard and always came away with a feeling of joy for which I could find no words.

At that time I was far from being well. Some two years previously I had fallen from a high step-ladder, injuring myself badly. Following this accident, I began to feel very ill, and a physician was called who stated that I had sustained internal injuries which would necessitate an operation. To this I objected, declaring to my husband that I would rather suffer the pain, and the doctor was accordingly discharged, as he said that he could do nothing further for me. Massage, together with a cold-water treatment, was then given a trial, and for a time this afforded me some relief; but I always felt weak, and could not walk or attend to any of my duties. At this epoch my attention was called to Christian Science. I purchased a copy of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and began to study it by reading a few chapters every day, and to my great joy all my ailments gradually ceased. I could hardly conceive that by simply reading this book I had become quite a new woman. Since then I have enjoyed better health than ever before.

My boy, aged five, soon after my illness had a severe attack of what appeared to be an eruptive fever, and a doctor had to be called in, owing to the police regulations here. The boy was quite restless, had a very high temperature, and was full of fear. I soothed him, and when the household had retired to rest I sat down by the child's cot and read through the chapter on Prayer several times. I soon noticed that the child was sleeping peacefully and that his temperature had gone down. He did not waken until the next morning, when he proved to be perfectly well. When the doctor came round to visit the patient, he was greatly surprised to find the boy quite well and playing about, and said his eyes must have deceived him.
