Whatever criticisms may be indulged in by the opponents of Christian Science in their efforts to discredit its claims to the serious consideration of mankind, it cannot be denied that Christ employed neither drugs, electricity, hypnotism, nor autosuggestion in his healing work, relying exclusively upon the truth, love, and power of God as the efficient remedy for all the ills that flesh is heir to. Nowhere in the Scriptures can it be discovered that he made any distinction whatever between organic and functional disorders, but healed "every sickness and every disease among the people," commanding his faithful followers to perform the same blessed work, giving them the definite assurance, "The works that I do shall he do also."

This is the key-note of the Christian Scientists' profesion and practice, and they claim that they are simply fulfilling their mission in obedience to the divine injunction. According to their teachings, the true spiritual concept of God and the divine law of Love is all that is required for the solution of the "adamant of error" (Science and Health, p. 242), which they believe to be the only basis of sickness and sin. Whatever views may be entertained by others as to the logic of this position, almost every intelligent observer who is in the least degree familiar with the subject, will candidly admit that great good has been accomplished by the cult, many of whom reside in this section of the city, in redeeming many almost hopeless victims from the slavery of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and other evil propensities to which mankind is addicted everywhere in the world.
