New Bedford (Mass.) Standard

The gentleman does not state whether he accepts Mrs. Eddy's definition of God, but I sincerely hope that he does, for as a matter of fact Mrs. Eddy's definition is in exact accord with the teaching of Jesus Christ. The Master said on one occasion, "God is a Spirit;" on another occasion, that God alone is good; and one of his disciples declard "God is love;" another, "The Spirit is truth." Putting all these definitions together, we have the Biblical teaching that God is Spirit, Love, Truth, good. Upon this as a foundation, Mrs. Eddy has builded the entire structure of Christian Science. We are therefore not a little surprised that any theologian should consider such teaching "a joke." Since the teaching of Christian Science is founded upon the teaching of our Lord, it appears that Mrs. Eddy is in very good company.

In her research Mrs. Eddy has discovered the Science of Christianity which the Bible includes, and has thus made God's Word more practical. That she has succeeded is answered by the increased harmony and goodness in the lives of those who have been fortunate enough to incorporate the teaching of Christian Science into their experiences. While Christian Science agrees with the Scriptural teaching that sin and disease are the products of the adversary of good, that is, an erroneous sense of creator and creation, and that these are no part of the divine economy, they do not ignore the evils and discords of life, but recognize that evil must be dealt with and overcome in a scientific and Christian manner.
