Although for twelve years the beautiful teachings of Christian Science have been healing, purifying, and uplifting my consciousness from material modes of living and thinking, the past year has been so varied in experience, so rich in demonstration, so many victories have been won, that to express my gratitude through our periodicals is the least I can do. While the physical healing I have experienced through Christian Science has been wonderful, it seems small in comparison to the growth of thought from a material to a spiritual basis. To feel the absolute assurance that divine Love is always "our refuge;" to be able to prove daily and hourly, through demonstration over self, sin, disease, and sorrow, that the Comforter is indeed revealed in this age to all who look for the truth,—all who "hunger and thirst after righteousness,"—surely this is infinitely greater than any relief from physical suffering.

I was a very delicate child; as I grew older serious diseases made their appearance, and I never knew what it was to be free from suffering. Each physician who was called in agreed that there was not a single healthy organ in my body; the only relief they could give me was through administering large quantities of opiates, and that also failed finally. Then it was that Christian Science was brought to my notice; and I shall never forget the sense of joy which flooded my consciousness when, after giving me my first treatment, the practitioner said, "'God is Love,' and you do not have to die." I never doubted that I should be health after that, even though it was several years before health was fully made manifest.

My thought was so filled with the sense of suffering, both mental and physical, that it was not strange, even with the help of consecrated and successful practitioners, that my healing was very slow. I had to be "transformed" by the renewing of the mind, and finally was divinely driven to "work out" my own salvation. All who have had a similar experience will know the manifold blessings which attend every step out of the false consciousness of existence into a realization, in some degree at least, that "life and intelligence are purely spiritual" (Science and Health, p. 14).
