Christian Science teaches that the veil of illusion which to mortal sense seems to obscure God and His perfect creation has been woven by ignorance, materiality, and sinfulness, and will be removed and is being removed by the spiritual appearing of Christ. In other words, Christ is seen to be the ideal truth about God, man, and the universe, which removes the illusions and appearances of sin, sickness, materiality, and death, and which reveals the new (real) heavens, the new (real) earth, and the new (real) man. The reason that he does not come more abundantly and universally through the Spirit of truth, or the Comforter, is because we are not more ready to receive him.

Christian Science practice, from the highest point of view, is simply the welcoming of the light, or the Christ-idea and spirit that reveals God as present and as All-in-all, and that casts out evil as unreal. Viewed in terms of active response on our part, it is the effort to keep the heart so full of love, the mind so full of truth, and the life so full of good deeds that there is no room left for evil. A Christian Science prayer or treatment is the desiring, the believing that we receive, the accepting, and the rejoicing in the good that God is always more ready to give than we are to receive. Christian Scientists naturally do not believe in hypnotic suggestion nor any mesmeric control; neither do they rely upon the subconscious to reform and heal the conscious, but know that the divine Mind governs both the conscious and the so-called subconscious mind.
