The supreme court of the state of New Jersey last evening [Feb. 23] reversed the decision of the lower court, in the case of Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Watson of Moorestown, N. J., who were convicted of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the demise of their seven-year-old son Granville, in May, 1907. The prosecution, basing its charge upon the fact that the parents did not provide a doctor of medicine, gives the present decision particular significance in relation to the rights of parents to decide as to what course of treatment they wish to prescribe in case of illness. In the opinion of the court the conviction could not be sustained under the statute.
