A bill has been introduced in the Senate which provides for a system of old-age annuities designed to take the place of the demand for old-age pensions for Government employes, but extending to all classes.

RECENTLY,
in an old book, I came across an article called the "Journeys of the Children of Israel," in which the writer tries to show that at least a part of the Scriptures was written allegorically ; and in illustrating this he refers to the following passages : "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn;" which is alleged by the apostle Paul in his first epistle to the Corinthians to prove that such as "preach the gospel should live of the gospel;" and that the Spirit of God intended this figurative sense in this precept, besides the literal, is manifested by the verse which follows this passage, where it is said that for our sakes the gospel was written.
A new
understanding of the word "grace" came recently, when calling upon a friend who has been reading Science and Health and studying the Lesson-Sermons but a short time.
The success of Christian Science in the healing of physical disease seems, as our critic says, to be the feature which is very frequently emphasized in discussions of the subject, probably for the reason that this is the phase of Christian Science which at first most strongly appeals to the average investigator.

A peculiar
grievance held against Christian Science by some of its critics is that it "draws from the membership of other churches," a fair inference from such criticism being that both the person who with the courage of his convictions changes his religion, and the church which receives him, have thereby done something wrong.

through the Bible—both in the Old and the New Testament—we find frequent references to God's covenant with man, and this subject is tersely summed up in Malachi, where God says, "My covenant was with him of life and peace.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, now holding services in Woodmen Hall, owns an exceedingly valuable site at the southwest corner of Central avenue and Walnut street, and it is reported is planning to build in the near future.
Christian Science came to me at a time when I was in a troubled condition, mentally and physically, but as I look back now I can see the guiding hand of divine Love through it all.
