MENTAL HABIT
The mental habit of attributing power to evil and to matter is the foundation of many discords, including sickness. It perpetuates the very suffering which mortals deplore the while they indulge it. Our great Exemplar, Christ Jesus, of whom the Scriptures say he "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin," never for an instant admitted that evil had power or that matter had power. He proved them powerless. He knew they proceeded not from infinite intelligence, God, good, the All-in-all. "They who sin must suffer," says Science and Health (p. 37). Mortals must learn that to admit that evil and matter have power, and to obey their supposed laws, is the sin of the world which Jesus came to take away.
The healing truth practised by Christ Jesus, and rediscovered by Mrs. Eddy, is revealed to this age in Christian Science. The "still small voice" of Spirit, Love, corrects the bad habit of wrong thinking which makes humanity its slave and brings untold and needless suffering. Even a slight understanding of the almightiness of the divine power is freeing millions from the slavery of their own mistaken beliefs, giving them practical proof of man's God-given dominion wherewith to work out their human problems in the way Jesus taught, when he said, "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
