"BE STILL, AND KNOW"

While silently pondering the psalmist's words, "Be still, and know that I am God," which become more beautiful through the spiritual understanding gained from the study of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, a great sense of happiness came to my consciousness, with a loving and longing desire to be able to express it to others.

To understand even in a degree what God is, we must first silence the material senses and allow the sweet ever-flowing currents of good and true thoughts to penetrate our consciousness. It is always by right thinking that we gain more and more of the understanding of God, who is then known to us as ever-present good, "which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death" (Science and Health, p. 140). Through communion with the divine Mind, we are enabled to overcome all that is unlike good. Sin and disease are quickly mastered if we at once "be still;" that is, allow nothing to prevent the voice of Truth from having our undivided attention.

Christian Scientists have many opportunities to prove the healing power of Truth. It was when the writer was a small child that Christian Science was first brought to her home, and it has been the only remedy since that time. On one occasion, when called upon to bring the power of Truth before the consciousness of one of the members of the household, who was moaning in pain, the "still small voice" was heard in this message from the Psalms: "The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet." This declaration of the truth silenced the disturbed senses and showed that the divine intelligence is reflected by those who are willing to cast their net "on the right side" and to understand that Truth destroys all discord.
