I wish to tell of the healing of our little daughter from...
I wish to tell of the healing of our little daughter from three different troubles. In the first place, when she was three years and nine months old, she had never walked or got on her knees, except when in a walking machine. I became discouraged, even though our doctor and friends told me that she would walk when she got ready. However, in April, 1908, a relative who is not a Scientist but has faith in its healing, advised us to try it, saying it might help her, and anyway it would not harm her. In a very doubting frame of mind, but with a sincere hope that she might be helped. I took her to see a practitioner. When I was told that I was holding the child in bondage by my fear, I did not understand how that could be, for I had always tried to do my duty in taking the best of care of her. I decided to try a week's treatment, and at once bought a copy of Science and Health and began to read it. I tried to do my part, and was told not to watch her every movement, but to leave her to God's care. That first day the child got up from the chair and seemed to have the desire to walk, but I was so full of fear that I jumpted to catch her in case she should fall. The practitioner said that just as soon as I could get rid of my fear the child would walk, and though I could not believe such a statement then, it was proved to me as time passed; for when, instead of having fear, I trusted in God, the child walked as well as any one.
The second difficulty overcome was a very bad case of bowel trouble, but it was cured in less than a week by absent treatment. The other ailment was non-control of the bladder, especially at night. This healing was a little slow, but it was complete. When I look back and think of the discomfort which both the child and myself suffered, and for so long, and then think of her being cured by a few treatments, it seems indeed wonderful; but I have learned that all things are possible with God, and all His works are good. I cannot express the thanks I feel for all His goodness, not only in the healing of our dear little daughter, but in the renewing of my own faith from day to day. Whereas before I rarely opened the Bible, now, through the interest I have taken in the study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I love to read it. I have found out that God is ever present, instead of a being who is afar off and to be found only after we die.
My earnest desire is to live the truth, and to have Love rule where fear once seemed to be. If any mother who reads these lines wishes to know more about this healing, I shall be glad at any time to write her more fully. It is now nearly two years since the child received her first treatment, and she has never had medicine of any kind since then.—
