When I first heard of Christian Science I thought it...

When I first heard of Christian Science I thought it very strange that any sane person should believe in such foolishness, but as God's ways are not man's, I was soon to be brought to a realization of what this wonderful teaching meant. I was on my way East from California, where I had been with my wife, hoping that the change of climate and surroundings would benefit her, when I noticed a Pullman car conductor reading a little book, in which he seemed to be deeply interested. As I was a rail road man myself, I felt at liberty to ask him what new book he was reading, and he told me it was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. He also told me how he had been healed through the understanding of the truth therein taught.

I often thought of this experience related by the conductor, and when my wife was sentenced to die by materia medica, I had no hesitancy in accepting Christian Science as a last resort. After her healing I had a blind faith in Christian Science, believing it capable of healing any and all forms of disease, although I then knew nothing of the Principle, and for over a year had no occasion to ask for help for myself. But one morning about half past four, I injured my right ankle very seriously by jumping off a moving train. I immediately telegraphed my wife to call upon a practitioner for help, and to ask her to meet me at our hotel on my arrival. The practitioner met me at half past ten, and remained with me for two hours, when she told me to put my shoe on and go down to dinner. Mortal belief said I could not; but my better nature told me to obey, and I immediately got up, put my shoes on, and walked down a long flight of stairs to dinner. At half past four that afternoon I took my run out of Jacksonville, Fla., and I continued on my regular run of three hundred and twenty miles per day without any ill effects.

For this and the many blessings that I have since received, physically, financially, and spiritually, I am ever grateful to God for giving this blessed truth to the world through Mrs. Eddy. I am also grateful to her for being the instrument through which God gave this message to mankind. I am very thankful for the patient work done in teaching me how to understand Christian Science.
