These words, from Revelation, "Behold, I make all...

These words, from Revelation, "Behold, I make all things new," have of late appealed to me with great force, and while contemplating them I felt compelled to review my career since beginning the study of the Christian Science text-book. The result astonished me and, needless to say, caused much joy. Among the foremost things made entirely new by this truth, I can number strength, sight, peace, more love, a priceless sense of protection, and, by no means least, a spiritual uplifting that cannot be expressed in words. Without wishing to dwell on the past or to attach importance thereto, as I now know that those erroneous thoughts were never any part of man's true being, there was a sense of not being strong, of needing tonics; short-sightedness was said to be hereditary, and I seemed to have a very unhealthy, morbid thought. War was a favorite subject with me, and I gave it much study. In my capacity as choirmaster in an orthodox church I tried to give great effect to such Psalms as, "Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered;" but I have now a "new" sense of the meaning of "enemies," which in the light of Science are beliefs in sin, disease, and death. The false consciousness seemed to hold out a long while against Truth, but when I saw clearly that in sympathizing with and entertaining thoughts of war I was siding with hate and antagonistic to Love, the victory came quickly. The new consciousness is filled with thoughts of peace and love towards men, irrespective of their location or nationality. The Psalms have therefore a new meaning, as indeed has all the Scripture.

Another point which is quite new is the giving thanks to God, Love, at the beginning instead of only at the close of day. This is due to a higher understanding of God. The morning study of the Lesson-Sermon is also a new way of disposing of much error which might otherwise remain to mar the harmony of others as well as myself. More particularly has this been the case since the arrival of the latest revised edition of Science and Health which Mrs. Eddy has so lovingly provided for us. It seemed to break completely the old sense of only a future deliverance and salvation, and my consciousness was filled with the "now" of the kingdom of God. The debt of gratitude which I owe to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I can only hope to repay by deeds. For others, as well as for myself, I have been able to demonstrate the healing truth, and it is a constant joy to declare frequently, "Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual" (Science and Health, p. 468).

This "new" yet old understanding of God as everpresent Love has proved an effectual refuge for me. In one experience, when I had fallen from a rapidly moving car, instead of fright and the auticipation of injury, the thought of God and of the power of Truth immediately came to me, and I arose with a new sense of peace and of trust which has been of great significance to me. How can I help praising God for His great love, and thanking Him for that day when I commenced to study our dear Leader's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," —the day that Truth began to "make all things new" for me.—
