LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

Boston, Mass., Nov. 16, 1908. Beloved Leader:—I feel you will be interested to know that to-day over fifteen hundred subscriptions to The Christian Science Monitor have been received at the Publishing House, the largest number in one day since the announcement of the paper; and the expressions of deep interest and gratitude which accompany many of these subscriptions indicate that a general welcome awaits the Monitor. The following letter tells of the kind of faith one of our correspondents out in Nebraska has in the Monitor:—

"Dear Publishing Society:— In a recent issue of the Sentinel I noticed an announcement of the fact that we are to have a Christian Science daily called the Monitor. This glad news filled my thought with joy, because I have prayed for years that God would send us a good clean daily newspaper. Oh, what a comfort it will be to sit down with our children or friends and read a newspaper that is not filled with flourishing headlines, depicting vice, crime, disaster, and death, magnifying evil and minimizing good. God bless the Monitor,—long may it live, and flourish, and 'wax strong in spirit,' helping to minimize evil and magnify the good. What a blessing it will be to humanity! It is a great need long felt, and now at the threshold of being filled.

"As an expression of my appreciation, I herewith enclose fifty-five dollars for a ten-years subscription to the Monitor and five dollars' worth of its first issue. With very best wishes for your success."
