THE LECTURES

"Christian Science: or Deliverance from Evil," was the subject of an interesting lecture which was delivered at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Tuesday evening [Sept. 29], by Rev. William P. McKenzie of Cambridge, Mass. He was introduced by John W. Thompson, former president of the Evanston public library, who said in part.—

Not since the first centuries of the Christian era have Christ's life and teachings exerted so great an influence on individual life and thought, and never before have they been the source of such wide-spread power for the promotion of human welfare. His gospel is the perennial message of "good news." the evangel of health, peace, and happiness to hundreds of thousands of people all over this earth, and the number is steadily and rapidly increasing. Christianity is spiritual, not material. It works through the spiritual understanding, bringing to human consciousness a realization of the allness of God, the all-intelligence of Mind, the oneness of Life, the unlimited power of Truth, the all-pervading Principle, Love, the fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of man. The attainment of this spiritual understanding restores man to his God-given dominion, destroys fear, stimulates confidence, illumines life's pathway, reveals the source of unlimited supply, and destroys every form of error, including sin, sickness, and death. "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed ; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Rightly (spiritually) understood, Christianity is the Christ Science, or the divine law of being as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus; and has been aptly named Christian Science by Mrs. Eddy, the Founder and Leader of Christian Science. —The Evanston Press.
