Christian Scientists are known to be a happy and contented people. Of course, the main reason is that they have found the truth which has made them free from sickness and suffering—but it seems to me that the greatest change is in the freedom from mental attributes which have only warped and narrowed the character until there was little left but self—and a false sense of self at that. The Christlike knowledge that we find in Christian Science is to know and understand that there is but one Mind, and as we enter the portals of this "new-old truth" we strive to have that Mind in us "which was also in Christ Jesus." . . .

Christian Science is pointing the way for unnumbered thousands who, through its teachings, are acquainting themselves with God, whom they have found to be of "purer eyes than to behold evil." and are finding the peace that truly does pass all understanding. You ask, What of the mortal mind wherein lie all the thoughts that cause sickness and misery—what of it? It is a counterfeit — a false state of consciousness. Suppose you possess a diamond pin which you prize and wear constantly. One day you meet a friend who is an expert in the diamond trade ; he tells you that your so-called jewel is no jewel, —it is paste, an imitation of the real gem. What is your estimation of the pin you were so proud of once? Do you prize it still? No. Why not? Because you have found it to be unreal. Now how did your friend the expert know that your once-admired diamond was a counterfeit? By making a study of the spurious gems? No, indeed; but by becoming familiar with the quantity and nature of real diamonds.

A musician does not work to understand discord in its various phases. He devotes his time to the study of harmony, and is so attuned to the beauty and richness of tones and chords that, if a jarring note is struck, instantly he recognizes it as not true — not real. He doesn't stop to reason out its origin, but hastens to remove its effects by striking the harmonious note that should have been struck in the first place. So also, if we keep ourselves constantly in tune with the one Mind, the Mind of Christ, by thinking right thoughts, God's thoughts, we shall not bring out jarring discords in our lives. And is it not necessary, in order to keep in tune with God, to study the Science of spiritual harmony?
