My neighbors sometimes say, "Well, the reason you and your family are not so subject to sickness is that you are naturally healthy." I am constrained to reply that this is true now,—since Christian Science has taught us that it is perfectly natural for man to be healthy,—and that we used to be sick unnaturally. We have lived here almost four years, and it has not been the experience of a single neighbor to find us seriously ailing. (I will gladly furnish the addresses of neighbors who are not Christian Scientists, but who are willing to answer any who may wish to investigate.) We are a family of six, and have two children in school who have there been exposed to various contagions without any bad results.
More than ten years ago a Christian Science Journal came to my hand, the perusal of which so convinced me of the practical availability of this present-day healing, that for three months I longed for the text-book, Science and Health, which I finally obtained, against the judgment of my husband, as being a very expensive book considering our circumstances. During the first three months' reading of the book I was healed of a catarrhal condition of the head and throat, which had destroyed my voice so that I could not sing; a pleasure hard to part with. My baby, then fifteen months old, was healed of a rupture dating from birth. My little girl of four years was healed of an intestinal trouble. My baby and myself were healed of a dreaded fever. Had I paid too much for the book?
To say that we are grateful for Christian Science, and that we love and revere Mrs. Eddy, is to put it very mildly. Language does not afford a satisfactory means of expressing our gratitude, but we shall endeavor so to live that others may see our good works, and believe.
