When I found my way to Christian Science in 1903...
When I found my way to Christian Science in 1903 I was partly lame, and materia medica had declared my trouble to be incurable. Electricity, as well as various other material means, had been of little avail; rather did they seem to be leading me rapidly toward the grave, and I hardly think that I would be here to-day if Christian Science had not healed me. My first visits to the Christian Science meetings, and later on the treatment, soon brought me relief. Material means had lost all power, and had to be given up, for which I am not sorry. Even the belief in hygiene, climate, etc., had to yield to the truth.
Christian Science treatment has freed me from all desire for tobacco and liquor, although I was a slave to the latter. It put a halt to my diseases, and stopped the unbearable pain which had tormented me day and night. This physical healing seems, however, but a small thing in comparison to the spiritual and moral strength with which Christian Science has blessed me. My mathematical work is now an easy task for me. Through the study of Science and Health, which I began about two years ago without any teacher, I have been enabled to read English readily. A few months ago I understood but little of our English Christian Science services, which I attend quite regularly, but now my ear has become accustomed to this language, and I follow the Lesson gladly and intelligently. I wish to say that these services give me a wonderful inspiration, so that I return home from them with renewed strength and a light step. For this great blessing I am thanking God from the depth of my heart.
Christian Science is showing us the way to Truth; and there is no other way. It is my daily task to watch and pray that I may remain in this path, and follow faithfully the banner which our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, is bearing onward in advance of us; it will lead us all upward to the zenith of demonstration, — to Life as God.
