[Written for the Sentinel.]

COMMUNION

To-day my famished heart looks up to thee,
Master and Lord, on Galilean coast,
And, looking on past waves of sin, I see
Revealed the living Christ earth's fears had lost.
To-day my weary heart so longs to live
Apart from self, and learn to love and do;
To cast my net aright, and freely give
All on the side of good ; to hear anew,
Across the sea of life, Truth's loving call:
Child hast thou labored all the weary night
And still hast found no meat? Thou findest all
Upon the side of Principle and right.

This morn, upon life's shore of Galilee,
Dear Christ, I long to share thy bread with thee,
To know the truth that sets the captive free.
