Christian Science came to me at the darkest time of my life...
Christian Science came to me at the darkest time of my life. I had just lost my earthly father, and was heartbroken besides being utterly miserable physically. I had suffered with bowel trouble for years, which finally resulted in a serious condition. Nothing gave any lasting relief, and after resorting to the knife I became so ill that I could scarcely get around. I was in this discouraged condition when a dear friend, who is a Scientist, spoke of her own wonderful healing and advised me to try Christian Science, telling me that I could be healed. This sounded strange to me, for I had tried many skilful physicians, but it seemed stranger still when she said I could be healed of my grief also. Even since I could remember I had been a sufferer from catarrhal trouble. I was a victim of fear, — afraid of sickness, poverty, death, everything, it seemed. I told the practitioner of this, and with a sweet assurance which seemed to know no fear she told me that God is Love, and referred me to that beautiful verse of Scripture, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." In my first treatment fear was cast out, and in less than two weeks I was entirely well. All seemed changed; I thought of my father with love, but did not grieve for him.
It is my earnest prayer to show my love and gratitude to our Leader by demonstrating the healing power of Truth and Love, thereby proving myself worthy of the name Christian Scientist.—Mrs. Esther Pelton, Fresno, Cal.
