THE DIVINE BENEDICTION
We frequently hear remarks about the sweet expression on the faces of Christian Scientists, the beauty of their smile, their joyous look, etc. A short time ago, a lady just beginning to be interested in Christian Science said to me, "If only my face did not look so sick and worn, I should be so glad! Why cannot I have that beautiful smile which all Christian Scientists have?" I replied, "Do you not know what that smile is? It is the spiritual sense dominating the material ; it is God's benediction for victory won over self, over sin, sickness, and sorrow. It is the seal which divine Love sets on those dear faces, and it says, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: . . . enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
Where rests a sweeter expression than is to be found on the face of our beloved Leader! Surely she has fought "the good fight" victoriously. So few people realize that it is the spiritual manifestation which all Christian Scientists love in Mrs. Eddy; it is her pure reflection of Spirit that we love, the radiance of Spirit shining through all she says and does. We know that it was because of her fitness that she was enabled to receive this wonderful, revelation of Truth and Love and give it to us.
Daily and hourly, from every quarter of the globe, great waves of gratitude and love unspeakable go up to God for the discovery of the healing truth of Christian Science, for since the days when Jesus walked the earth, there has not been known such healing, such redemption from sin, such understanding and practice of the Golden Rule. The great body of Christian Scientists are united in their desire to bring daily not alone into their own lives, but into the lives of all with whom they come in contact, that "peace of God, which passeth all understanding." Without this grand revelation of the truth of the Bible, which for hundreds of years has been an unknown tongue so far as its practical demonstration is concerned, very many of us would yet be in bondage to error of every sort. We therefore thank God for the patience, sweetness, and love that day by day is working and watching for our more perfect understanding of God.
