Christian Science is founded upon divine Principle...
The Ledger,
Christian Science is founded upon divine Principle—this Principle is God—God understood. The student of mathematics does not question either the principle or the rule in mathematics, but he does not claim to understand all of the principle or know all the rules; in the degree of his persistent effort he becomes proficient. So it is in the practice of Christian Science the practitioner who adheres to the divine Principle, who studies and practises its rules, is rewarded for his persistent work. Jesus illustrated the difference between "faith-cure" and scientific understanding when his disciples failed to heal the epileptic boy. When they asked him why they had failed, he said, "This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
Mrs. Eddy has discovered this great demonstrable Principle, and she has so thoroughly proved it that she has courageously given its statement to the world, where it will remain a divine heritage so long as its rules are adhered to strictly, as Jesus adhered to them and thus demonstrated his divine Principle. Christian Science looks beyond the physical effect of error and sin and uncovers its hidden and subtle mental cause, and denies the power of evil or Satan to hold God's children in bondage to fear and disease. With the Master, it says, "Loose him, and let him go," knowing that the claims disease, fear, and sin are illegitimate and no part of God's law or plan. Many are healed through this understanding, after materia medica, mental suggestion, and "faith-cure" have failed. Christian Scientists accept compensation for their efforts to heal the sick, because Jesus said, "The laborer is worthy of his hire." Ministers and physicians have to live by their labors and ministrations, and so do Christian Scientists.
When the world awakes to the real value of this great discovery by Mrs. Eddy there will be no longer any contention as to who discovered it. Those who are willing to follow its divine behests find that the kingdom of God has come on earth, and that infinite, divine Love, through Christ. Truth, is here, taking away the sins of the world, healing its aches, its sorrows, its poverty, its blindness, as Christ Jesus did.
