I am very glad to have the opportunity of giving a testimony...
I am very glad to have the opportunity of giving a testimony of my healing in Christian Science. During the spring of 1907 I was taken down with a serious eruption and confined to my bed for about a week, suffering considerable pain from the severe inflammation. I was treated by as good a physician as could be had, he attending me at least once a day for over a week; but it was very nearly, if not quite, two weeks before I felt entirely relieved. At the time of this illness I did not know much about Christian Science, which accounts for my having a physician to attend me; however, soon after recovering I did look into the subject and commenced attending services. I did not give it very serious consideration until after I had attended a number of meetings, but my wife was deeply interested and very enthusiastic, all of which had its effect on me.
Last October I was again attacked with the same disease, which involved my face and very nearly the entire surface of my head. Instead of securing the services of a physician, my wife prevailed on me to call for a Christian Science practitioner. I at once commenced to improve after the first treatment. I did not have to remain in bed at all during the attack, and the pain was very slight, the inflammation being confined to the external portion of the face and head, the physical condition otherwise seeming not to be in sympathy with the disease, and in less than one week I was healed. I consider my case very remarkable from the fact that I was healed by absent treatment, and what might seem more strange is that I am a regular graduate of a medical college and have practised the profession many years. Another remarkable effect of reading Science and Health is that during my first study of the book I used tobacco quite liberally, smoking very frequently, but after having read for some time I had less desire to smoke, and in a very short time dropped the habit entirely.
Since I have taken up the study of Christian Science I feel deep gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for the joy of living and the better understanding of God which I have gained thereby.—Charles Phipps, M.D., Los Angeles, Cal.
