When Christian Science first appealed to me I seemed to...

When Christian Science first appealed to me I seemed to be plunged in a sea of despair. I had been for twelve years a sufferer from what several physicians and specialists had puzzled over and finally declared a form of epileptic trouble. I very frequently became unconscious in public places, and was unable to go into a crowd for fear of an attack. Along with this I had a severe trouble which is bowing down so many of the women of our day, and my fourmonths-old babe was wasting away for lack of nourishment, so that no one held out any hope for him.

When the hour seemed darkest, a friend gave me an old copy of Science and Health. I do not wish to convey the thought that the subject was a new one to me, for before this I had bitterly opposed the healing as impossible. I believed my sickness to be incurable, but how true it is that "a little child shall lead them." When I lost all hope for my boy's recovery under materia medica, I seized upon what seemed the only chance left, and I can truthfully say that from the day that precious volume was handed to me he began to mend. Food began to nourish him, and I had no return of the epileptic attacks, though the fear of their return was almost overpowering at times. When I came to Pasadena, five weeks later, I decided to place myself unreservedly in the hands of a Christian Science practitioner. I did so, and my fear fell away from me; and a severe case of kidney trouble, together with a bowel trouble which the child manifested, disappeared in a very short time. To-day both baby and I are in perfect health, and with the physical healing has come a sweet peace and uplifting of thought.

Is it any wonder that the land rings with praises of that noble woman who has lived such a consecrated life as would enable her to give to us a working understanding of the truth that Christ Jesus preached and practised centuries ago. My desire is to grow daily in grace, that I may know more and more of the divine Love which heals and saves.—Mrs. Frances Monnette, Pasadena, Cal.
