It is a little over three years since Christian Science made its effective appeal to me, through my reading in the Sentinel of the rapid recovery of a very dear friend, from a fall. Since that time I have not used medicine of any kind, and have enjoyed the best health of my life. Many physical ills, among them rheumatic and bowel trouble, have been quickly proven unreal and have vanished into their native nothingness through the power of Truth. The spiritual uplifting gained through this healing truth has indeed been a revelation to me. Several years prior to taking up the study of Christian Science, I had given up reading the Bible, declaring it to be contradictory, illogical, and untrue, for so it seemed from my intensely material view-point. This mental attitude landed me in the pit of agnosticism, where I remained until that wondrous book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, came to me with its uplifting message, clearing my vision and enabling me to enjoy the study of the Bible in this new and true light, through which has been destroyed the drinking habit, profanity, hatred, revengeful thoughts,—in fact, a long list of encumbrances emanating from mortal mind. To the thought unacquainted with the Science of being there is always something appalling in an earthquake, and in this country, where these disturbances are of very frequent occurrence, it is not unusual to see people rushing into the street from their homes and offices, in terror at the rocking of the buildings. Here again, as in all other incidents of human life, Christian Science is a sovereign remedy, allaying fear and teaching us that God is All in all.
Any attempt on my part to measure the benefits I have received from the study of this great truth only makes me realize more and more that I really began to live only three years ago; and for the many blessings which I have received, I feel impelled to exclaim, in unison with an ever-increasing multitude of beneficiaries, All love, honor, and gratitude to our noble-hearted Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
